The seeds of antique Kroeber Clocks started off around 1860 in New York when Florenz Friedrick Martin Kroeber started work for small clock makers called "Owen & Clark" in the city. When he started there he had no idea where his new career would ultimately go, but as he gained an interest in horology his knowledge grew to a F. Kroeber No. 30 Walnut Wall Clock, New York, c. 1880, the walnut and burl walnut veneered case with turned and carved columns flanking the 7-in. paper on zinc dial, printed maker's label on backboard stating Eight-Day F. Kroeber Clock Company - New York, NY Clock dated 23 October 1874.

This is a fine example of a very early F. Kroeber timepiece, Maiden Lane, New York, Circa 1860's. This mantle clock stands 20 high by 18" wide. Eight (8) day striking iron front shelf clock with paw feet is completely intact, with no case pieces missing. The original dial measures 4" in diameter with a brass bezel, and original glass.

It was incorporated as the F. Kroeber Clock Company in 1887 and that year a second New York store was opened in midtown Manhattan. Their 1888 catalog of 208 pages illustrated 286 clocks and 43 figurines, over 90% of American manufacture. Business began to decline with the depression of 1893 and in 1895 the midtown store was closed.
